The holy scriptures of the three Abrahamic religions share some of the main aspects of historical events which happened after Prophet Abraham. One topic which reveals many such shared aspects is the story of Moses who rose up against the despotic Pharaoh. The events during the period are important to the Muslims, Jews and Christians, and in many cases form the basis of the history and rituals of the three religions. This work is a comparative study of the Biblical and Qur'anic narrations of the story of Moses and Pharaoh.
Numerous books have been written by Western scholars on the historicity of the Jesus of the Gospels. Some endorse his image in the New Testament while others accept parts of it and reject others. Muslim scholars too have contributed immensely on the subject. But contrary to their Western counterparts, they focused mainly on the Qur’an and other Islamic sources, and in most cases, dismissed the Christian image of Jesus. As such, some of these Muslim scholars too have committed the mistake of ignoring independent historical sources.
The Qur'anic sura (chapter) of Yusuf (Joseph) deals almost entirely with the story of this noble Prophet, his brothers, and their father Prophet Jacob. Since the revelation of the Qur'an fourteen centuries ago, there have been numerous attempts to interpret this sura. The present study is not a review of previous exegetical attempts, but a genuinely new look at the sura - including careful examination of the historical background of its story and detailed comparison with the corresponding Biblical narrative.
This is the second volume of the series on the Prophet Muhammad as found in world scriptures. While the first volume explores the Parsi, Hindu and Buddhist scriptures, this volume explores what the Bible says about the Holy Prophet of Islam. Written some hundred years ago by a Christian priest who converted to Islam, this book helps readers understand the absolute unity of God and the ultimate source of all revealed Scriptures. Also available in a set of two volumes.
